ANH Europe and ANME sign MoU to defend science, choice and natural health in Europe

Strategic agreement comes as European Commission prepares proposal on maximum permitted levels for vitamins and minerals

AMSTERDAM, 19 JUNE 2026 — The Alliance for Natural Health Europe (ANH Europe) and the Association for Natural Medicine in Europe (ANME) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen collaboration on European natural health policy at a critical moment for practitioners, consumers and responsible food supplement businesses.

The agreement comes ahead of the anticipated publication of the European Commission’s proposal on Maximum Permitted Levels (MPLs) for vitamins and minerals in food supplements and fortified foods — a process that could reshape access to higher-potency micronutrients across the EU.

ANH and ANME say the MoU will help bring stronger scientific, practitioner and public health perspectives into the discourse, ensuring regulation protects people not only from excessive intakes, but also from the very real risks of insufficiency, deficiency and restricted access to meaningful nutritional support.

Robert Verkerk PhD, scientific director of ANH Europe, said:

This is not just a technical discussion about numbers on labels. It is about whether Europe’s nutrition policy will recognize both sides of the public health equation: risk from excess and risk from inadequacy. For years, we have challenged risk-only models that can drive maximum levels down to unjustifiably low limits. The alternative is a proportionate, science-based risk/benefit framework that reflects real-world nutritional needs, practitioner experience and individual variability.
